Hana is seeking a Design Director to manage and run a global design studio delivering flexible office space around the globe. This role will be based in New York City with global responsibilities in a fast-paced environment and report to the Vice President of Product and Experience Design
The Design Director at Hana is responsible for managing and growing an internal global design team at Hana. This will require strategizing and executing a plan for growth not only in North America but internationally in Europe and Asia within a short time span. The well-qualified candidate will be extremely process-driven and have a vision of how to grow a team not just in size, but in efficiency. The Design Director must be fluent in the day to day operational tasks to execute design work through construction. In addition, fluency in building codes and developing regional and global strategies for compliance are essential. The Design Director must be able to understand how design outputs are leveraged by other departments and stakeholders and how to prioritize these outputs to drive the value of the team. The Design Director will be responsible for the strategy to grow and sustain a global team of designers in step with the growth of the company.
Develop and grow a sustainable design practice for entry level through senior level architects and interior designers
Manage a growing pipeline of project work and the staff to successfully execute extremely fast-paced projects around the world
Drive innovation of workplace design at scale and collaborate with product development teams to continually improve the product in meaningful and results-driven initiatives.
Up to 25% travel at times
Increase studio production capacity per FTE for a growing pipeline of work
Standardize design and construction to reduce capital costs over time at scale
Create process, tools, and training to grow an internal design practice
Strategize and make key hires to drive team expansion to support projects worldwide
Deliver projects on time and on budget
Innovate workplace design through iterative feedback with the support of the broader Hana team
Strategize, and deploy technology, tools, and processes to the team to drive efficiency alongside Product and Design Operations
Experience & Qualifications
The well-qualified Design Director will be able to:
Minimum 10 or more years of experience directly managing all phases of architectural design and construction processes
Expert in directing project teams and coordinating consultants and contractors through all phases of design and construction
Deep knowledge and experience in creating and managing contract documents
Experience in developing strategies to manage team processes and develop new approaches to drive success.
Understand how design and construction work outputs can generate additional value to internal stakeholders in other departments including finance, sales, marketing, etc.
Understand and drive project delivery while working alongside product development.
Strong background in BIM and how building data may be leveraged by other stakeholders
Expertise in standard design software, (Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, etc.)
Have expert opinions and an interest in emerging technologies and how to leverage them to drive efficiency and quality of work
Execute project work in concert with piloting and prototyping product development efforts
Create opportunities to elevate the potential for all direct and indirect reports
Manage a growing pipeline of design work across multiple teams and offices
Manage and scale the design studio with internal and external resources
Procure, direct, and manage consultant work around the globe
Prioritize and schedule deliverables to internal stakeholders
Integrate project timelines with continued product development
Have a rolled-up sleeves attitude to get work done in a timely way
Accredited degree in interior design, architecture, or construction management or a related field, or equivalent work experience
